My passion for software development started at an early age with BASIC programming on a Commodore 64 in the 1980's. That continued into the next decade - dabbling in more complex languages and working to create things that allowed people to interact remotely (over dial up modems and BBS's in those days). Despite this, it all seemed more like a hobby as opposed to a career, so I chose to follow the more standard path of engineering.

After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Chemical Engineering I spent a couple years at a large manufacturing company and obtained a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification. This was the height of the .com era and the tools available to developers were exploding. Along with a few co-workers who were interested in these new technologies, we worked outside of our normal daily engineering duties to attempt extract data from the legacy equipment and produce real-time web-based reports. It was an enormous success - historically plant managers would not have had access to this data until the next morning so this was a revelation.

Emboldened by these accomplishments and wanting to do more, several of us banded together and form a technology startup as a side business. This endeavor grew quickly and in short time we all moved on from the corporate world to this new exciting venture. After 20+ successful years of providing a wide array of technical services to hundreds of satisfied customers across multiple markets, the company was acquired by a large IT service provider in 2022.
